A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BEGINNING
Starting in the Fall of 1970, Louie Madrid, Rod Wells, Stan Ross and Barry Meiselman were a regular foursome at Dryden Park, where they were frequently joined by Ben Alonzo, a friend of Louie’s.

In September of 1972, following a round of golf and a long afternoon in the SOS Club bar, Louie suggested that we form a golf club. Louie, Rod, Stan, Barry and Ben met at Louie’s apartment later that week. Rules were drawn up and Louie suggested we call the club “Bogeys Unlimited.”
Each of us invited a friend or two to join us in an informal, relaxed tournament. Twelve of us teed it up at Manteca Park Golf Course on October 19, 1972. The cost of the tournament was $3.00, which included green fees, a golf ball for every player, and trophies for the winners.
In addition to the five “founding fathers”, that first tournament also included current members Ed Bettencourt and Bob Bradley. Ed and Bob also attended the first official club meeting in November.
At that first meeting, attended by the twelve charter members, Louie was elected President, and in July of 1973, we held our first Annual Championship tournament at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach. The cost of that tournament, by the way, was $25, which included green fees, carts, tee prizes and trophies.
